Corporate History
Havilah Resources NL was formed in late 1996 to explore for gold and other metals in South Australia. In mid 1997 Lion Selection Group Ltd became a cornerstone investor in Havilah and subsequently invested $1.9m.
Havilah listed on the ASX on 21st March 2002, following a successful $6 million capital raising. Since then the Company has patiently acquired a strategic, 100% owned ground holding in the Curnamona Province, now covering more than 6000 square kilometres of highly prospective Broken Hill age rocks. The potential of this region for major mineral deposits has been confirmed by Havilah’s announcement in February 2005 of an 80 million tonne copper-gold-molybdenum deposit at Kalkaroo plus encouraging drilling results from several other projects, notably North Portia, Portia and Mutooroo.
In April 2005, Havilah sponsored the ASX listing of Curnamona Energy Limited, a vehicle formed specifically to hold its Tertiary uranium exploration interests in the Curnamona Province. Havilah shareholders received a 1:8 priority entitlements offer in Curnamona Energy, which was heavily oversubscribed and raised $5.6 million. Havilah retains a 45.4% interest in Curnamona Energy. Havilah plans to return the majority of its Curnamona Energy shares to its shareholders via an in specie distribution.
In June 2005, Havilah divested its original Gawler Craton properties in return for a 10% holding in Monax Mining Limited, in which Havilah shareholders received a 1:3 priority offer.
While compiling geological data for its regional mineral exploration programmes in the Curnamona Province, Havilah became aware that an area west of its tenements had the key requisites for a potential hot rock geothermal energy source. Havilah sponsored the formation of Geothermal Resources Limited, a specialist geothermal exploration and development company. Havilah holds 63.6% of Geothermal Resources, which listed on the ASX on 21st March 2006.
As part of its copper strategy, Havilah aims to achieve annual copper and gold production of 55,000 tonnes and 100,000 ounces respectively, from mining operations to be developed on its three advanced projects, namely Kalkaroo, Mutooroo and Benagerie over the next three years. This will be accompanied by appreciable by-product cobalt, molybdenum and sulphuric acid production. Accordingly, Havilah is focused on completing feasibility studies on these three projects by the end of 2008.
Most recently Havilah has farmed out some of its non-core Curnamona Province tenements to Canopus Resources Limited in exchange for an entitlement offer to Havilah shareholders and a 17.3% interest in Canopus at the time of listing on the ASX..
